According to Jataka Desha Marga, Chapter 8, Shloka 79, Muni Yoga is formed in a natal chart when Venus is placed in a Neecha (debilitated) Navamsa or Shatru (enemy) Navamsa and is positioned in the Trikona houses (1st, 5th, or 9th). Additionally, malefic planets such as Mars, Rahu, Saturn, or Ketu must also be in Neecha or Shatru Navamsa and conjunct or associated with Venus in these Trikona houses.

Individuals with Muni Yoga are said to lack the conventional happiness of a householder's life but dedicate themselves to selfless service, benefiting society throughout their lives.

Example 1: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Chart below

D9 - Navamsha chart below

In the natal chart of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Venus is not directly placed in the 1st, 5th, or 9th house but is located in the 6th house. However, a sign exchange (parivartana yoga) between Venus (5th lord in the 6th house) and Mercury (6th lord in the 5th house) effectively places Venus in the 5th house astrologically. In this configuration, Venus is conjunct Ketu, a malefic planet but spiritual in nature , in Taurus, which is Ketu’s debilitated sign. Furthermore, in the Navamsa chart, Ketu[Spiritual in nature] remains in Taurus, its Neecha Navamsa. While Venus is not in a Neecha or Shatru Navamsa, it is afflicted by its conjunction with the Moon in Mrityu Bhaga.
This alignment fulfills the conditions of Muni Yoga. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar exemplifies this yoga through his profound contributions to society, including the establishment of the Art of Living Foundation and the introduction of the transformative Sudarshan Kriya technique, reflecting the selfless service characteristic of Muni Yoga.
With Venus Dasha (Vimshottari) currently active in Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s chart, the influence of Venus, a key planet in his Muni Yoga, is likely to amplify his selfless service and societal contributions. Given Venus’s association with the 5th house (through sign exchange) and its conjunction with Ketu in a debilitated sign, this period may enhance his spiritual outreach, philanthropy, and global impact through initiatives like the Art of Living Foundation and Sudarshan Kriya. The society can indeed expect an intensified wave of service and positive influence from him during this Dasha.
Example 2: Shri K.N. Rao horoscope Muni Yoga analysis

Shri K.N. Rao, a distinguished Indian astrologer, revolutionized Vedic astrology and founded the Institute of Astrology at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, New Delhi, in 1987, where he currently serves as an advisor. His astrological destiny was shaped by a powerful horoscope, with the Lagna lord and 10th lord conjunct in the Lagna and exalted, unafflicted Jupiter in the 10th house, free from any conjunction or aspect.
This was foreseen by his Jyotish Guru, Yogi Bhaskarananda of Gujarat, whom Rao revered as a true Rishi astrologer in the classical tradition.
Yogi Bhaskarananda predicted Rao’s global mission to restore honor and dignity to Hindu astrology, a prophecy fulfilled through his worldwide contributions. Muni Yoga is evident in Rao’s chart, with Venus in the Lagna alongside malefic Mars and the Moon, rendered malefic due to its proximity to the Sun. In the Navamsa, Venus occupies the Navamsa of Mars (a neutral sign) but is afflicted in Mrityu Bhaga, while the Moon, in the Navamsa of Venus, is weakened on Shukla Pratipada. Although the Moon has no enemies, Venus considers the Moon an enemy, fulfilling the conditions of Muni Yoga as per Jataka Desha Marga, Chapter 8, Shloka 79. This yoga reflects Rao’s lifelong commitment to selfless service through astrology, prioritizing societal welfare over personal domestic fulfillment.
Example 3: H.E António Guterres horoscope Muni Yoga analysis

António Guterres, with a Sagittarius Lagna horoscope, exemplifies Muni Yoga as per Jataka Desha Marga, Chapter 8, Shloka 79. In his chart, Venus is positioned in the 5th house, a Trikona house, alongside Mars, Sun, and Rahu. Though Mars is a trine lord, its natural malefic nature is amplified by a close conjunction with Rahu, a malefic planet. In the Navamsa, Venus is debilitated (Neecha) in Virgo, and Mars occupies an enemy (Shatru) Navamsa. These conditions—Venus in a Trikona house with malefics, Venus in Neecha Navamsa, and Mars in Shatru Navamsa—satisfy the requirements of Muni Yoga.
As an idealist and the current Secretary-General of the United Nations, Guterres embodies this yoga through his unwavering commitment to global service, addressing crises with compassion. Previously, as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from June 2005 to December 2015, he led a premier humanitarian organization during unprecedented displacement crises, including conflicts in Syria, Iraq, South Sudan, Central African Republic, and Yemen, overseeing a surge in UNHCR activities as displaced populations grew from 38 million to over 60 million.
Conclusion: Muni Yoga’s Gift of Service
Muni Yoga in the charts of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Shri K.N. Rao, and H.E. António Guterres shows a life of giving to others. Through spiritual teachings, astrology, and global leadership, they inspire millions by putting society’s needs first, proving the power of selfless service.
