Astrological Insights into Nobel Laureates in Physics: Key Combinations and Dasha Patterns

In the month of October every year, the most prestigious prizes on Earth are awarded in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, peace, and economic sciences. As an astrologer, I am interested in exploring what is special in the charts of Nobel laureates that might have contributed to such great honors.

As a science student, let me start with the Nobel Prize winner in Physics. The Nobel Prize in Physics 2023 was awarded to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz, and Anne L’Huillier "for experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter."  All these great Nobel laureates are scientists. I am exploring the combination of Vedic astrology to become a scientist.

Vigyan Yoga: When the 3rd Lord (representing self-efforts) and the 8th Lord (associated with research) are conjunct and both are powerful, the individual is likely to be deeply interested in conducting extensive research and discovering new things.

Uccha Vagyanik Yoga: When Jupiter is in the Lagna (Ascendant) and the Moon is in a Kendra (angle), forming Gajakeshari Yoga, Rahu is in the 2nd house from the Moon, and both the Sun and Mars are in the 3rd house from Rahu (which places them in the 4th house from the Moon), such a person is likely to be a great scientist and will achieve all sorts of happiness and prosperity.

Horoscope of Pierre Agostini[ Nobel Prize Winner

Picture of Pierre Agostini[

Now, let me explore the chart of Pierre Agostini[Astrodatabank AA rating], who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2023. In this chart, the 8th Lord and 3rd Lord, Mars, is well-placed in the 7th house, which is associated with its friend Jupiter (Pisces) and located in the Sagittarius Navamsha. Mars is particularly powerful in Shadabala. The 5th Lord, associated with education by choice, indicates that Saturn is well-placed in the 9th house, under a constellation exchange with the Sun. The Sun, in astrology, suggests a connection to the subject of Physics. In the Navamsa chart, the 5th Lord Mercury is aspected by the Sun from the 8th house of research and Mars the 3rd and 10th Lord . So, the Sun influences the 5th Lord in both the Rashi chart and the Navamsa chart, indicating a strong connection to research in Physics. As taught by my Guru ShK.N Rao, if the 5th house or its lord is under the influence of malefics and the Sun, the subject of education is Physics.

Before reaching a final conclusion about the selection of the subject of study, it is important to analyze the D-24 Chart as prescribed by the Brihat Prashar Hora Shastra.

Here, the 5th Lord, Saturn, is well-placed in the Lagna, along with the Lagna Lord, Mercury, and the 9th Lord, Venus. The connection between the Lagna Lord Mercury, the 5th Lord Saturn, and the 9th Lord Venus in the Lagna forms an excellent combination for education. Mars, the 3rd and 8th Lord, in conjunction with the 5th Lord, Lagna Lord, and 9th Lord, clearly indicates a propensity for research and a scientific temperament.

But why did he choose to study Physics? Saturn, as mentioned earlier, is in a constellation exchange with the Sun—Sun is in Pushya Nakshatra and Saturn is in Krittika Nakshatra. Since the Sun represents the field of Physics, this exchange could explain his decision to pursue this subject.

In the Rashi Chart, the 10th Lord Mercury (representing honor) is positioned in the 10th house, along with the 11th Lord Moon (representing the fulfillment of desires). This combination is aspected by Mars (the 3rd and 8th Lord, associated with scientific pursuits).

At the time of the Nobel Prize announcement on October 3, 2023, the Dasha running was Moon-Jupiter-Rahu. Since the Moon was in the constellation of Jupiter and Jupiter was in the constellation of the Moon, the Dasha behaved like Moon-Moon-Rahu. The Moon, as the 11th Lord, represents the fulfillment of desires and gains of all kinds. The Moon is exalted in the Navamsa chart and aspects the 10th house of honor. Rahu in the Lagna (Ascendant), which is both a Kendra (angle) and a Trikona (trine) house, is under Rajyoga due to the aspect of Jupiter, who is the Kendra (angle) Lord.

It is important to note that the Moon, as the 11th Lord, is not only in the 10th house but also conjoined with the 10th Lord, Mercury.

In this chart, the 10th lord Mercury is in the 10th house in its own sign. The 5th lord Saturn (representing intelligence and education by choice) is well-placed in the 9th house (which is the 5th from the 5th house) in the Rashi chart and is also in its own sign in the Navamsa chart. Additionally, the 3rd and 8th lord, which is associated with research work, is also very strong.

The 5th lord Mercury of the Navamsa chart is in a sign exchange with Jupiter, the 2nd lord again a good combination to be a scientist as Mercury is also aspected by Sun from 8th House and Mars the 3rd Lord and 1oth Lord . Sun and 8th House clearly showing research in Physics.

Anne L’Huillier, along with Pierre Agostini and Ferenc Krausz, won the Nobel Prize in Physics 2023. Let me explore her chart to understand why she conducted research in physics and won such a prestigious prize. Her birth details taken from https://www.astrotheme.com .

Horoscope of Anne L’Huillier Nobel Prize Winner
Picture of Anne L’Huillier Nobel Prize Winner

Let me explore her chart to understand why she conducted research in physics and won such a prestigious prize. Kindly note that the 5th lord Saturn is in the 3rd house, retrograde, aspectingthe 5th house (own sign) and the Sun and Venus (9th lord) from the 11th house. In the Navamsa, the 5th lord is the Sun, and the Moon (Vargottama) is in the 5th house, aspected by Saturn from the 11th house. Venus, from the 6th house, aspects the 5th lord Sun in the 12th house. In the D-24 chart, the 5th house is Leo (Sun), with Rahu, Ketu, and the Moon placed in the 5th house under the aspect of Mars, the Lagna lord of D-24. Additionally, the 5th lord Sun in the 3rd house is aspected by Venus in 9th House [ 5th from 5th House]

So, the role of the Sun and malefics in the 5th house or affecting the 5th lord is clearly visible, indicating the subject of Physics.

The 3rd lord and 8th lord Mars, located in the 8th house and aspecting the 3rd house, creates a favorable combination for a scientist.

She won the Nobel Prize during the Jupiter-Venus-Venus dasha. The antar dasha lord Venus is in the 11th house with the Sun. The Sun is in a sign exchange with the Moon, the 11th lord. Thus, Venus is not only in the 11th house but also with the 11th lord Moon due to this sign exchange. The 11th house signifies the fulfillment of desires, and the 9th lord Venus indicates luck.

Since the Mahadasha lord Jupiter, antar dasha lord Venus, and pratyantar dasha lord Venus are all under the aspect of Mars from its own sign in 8th House[Research], this indicates a strong focus on research work.

In the Dashmansha chart, the antar dasha lord Venus is the 9th lord located in the 9th house, and Jupiter is in the 3rd house with the 3rd and 8th lord Mars, which confirms the research work in Physics and her luck .

Horoscope of John F. Clauser  Nobel Prize Winner
Picture of John F. Clauser  Nobel Prize Winner

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 was awarded jointly to Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger "for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science"

Now let me discuss the chart of John Clauser[Astrodatabank AA rating], Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 2022. In the Libra Lagna chart, Saturn is the 5th lord located in the 8th house of research, under the aspect of the Sun, Mercury (9th lord), and Venus (Lagna lord). Ketu is in the 5th house, aspected by the Moon (10th lord). In the Navamsa chart, the 5th lord Mercury is in the 7th house with the Sun and Ketu, and is aspected by Saturn, the 9th and 10th lord. In the D-24 chart, the 5th lord Sun is with Mercury and Saturn, while the 9th lord Jupiter is in the 5th house. So, the role of the Sun and malefics in the Rashi Chart, Navamsa Chart, and Chaturvimshamsha Chart is clearly visible, justifying the subject of Physics.

The 3rd lord (self-effort) Jupiter[exalted,R] in the 10th house, aspecting the Lagna lord and the 8th lord Venus, forms a connection between the 8th lord and the 3rd lord, clearly justifying the occupation of a scientist.

It is interesting to note that the 5th lord Saturn (representing education by choice) is under the aspect of the Sun in the Rashi Chart and Navamsa Chart, and is conjunct with the Sun in the Chaturvimshamsha Chart, where the Sun is also the 5th lord.

At the time of the Nobel Prize in October 2022, he was under the dasha of Saturn-Rahu-Saturn. Rahu was in the 11th house (fulfillment of desire) with the 10th lord Moon (honor), and Saturn, the Yogakaraka, was in the 8th house, forming various Rajyogas through its aspect on Mercury (9th lord), Venus (Lagna lord), and Mars (7th lord). Additionally, Mars[2nd Lord] and Venus[Lagna Lord] were in a sign exchange, creating a significant Dhan Yoga.

Horoscope of Alain Aspect Nobel Prize Winner
Picture of Alain Aspect[

Now let me understand the chart of another Nobel laureate in Physics for the year 2022, Alain Aspect[Astrodatabank AA rating ]. In his Rashi Chart, the 5th lord Saturn is under the mutualaspect of Mars, but there is no direct connection between the Sun and the 5th house or its lord. However, the Sun is in the 9th house (5th from the 5th house) with the 9th lord Mercury. In the Navamsa chart, the Sun is in the 5th house with exalted Saturn. In the D-24 chart, the 5th lord Mars is in the 10th house with Jupiter and Mercury. However, the Sun is in the 2nd house in its own sign, which is the 10th house from the 5th house, influencing the 5th house as per the principles of Varaha Mihira in the D-24 chart.

So, the Sun is in the 9th house of the Rashi Chart and in the 5th house of the Navamsa Chart with Saturn, the 9th lord. The 8th lord Venus is in the 8th house of research, in exact degree conjunction with Rahu. Additionally, the Uccha Vagyanik Yoga is applicable liberally, as Jupiter is in the Lagna, the Moon is in the 7th house, and Rahu is in the 2nd house from the Moon.

At the time of receiving the Nobel Prize, he was running the dasha of Saturn-Mercury-Venus. Saturn, as the 5th lord, was in the 10th house of honor, forming Rajyoga. Mercury, the 9th lord of fortune, was in the 9th house conjunct with 11th Lord Sun[Fulfillment of desire], and Venus, the 8th lord, was in the 8th house of research. The connection  of 10th House [Honour] and 11thHouse[Fulfillment of desire]  is clearly visible . Additionally, Venus was exalted in the 10th house in the Navamsa chart and was in a sign exchange with Jupiter, the 10th lord of the Navamsachart. Mercury, the Lagna lord of the Navamsa chart, is also conjunct with Jupiter.

Carl E. Wieman won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2001 for his groundbreaking work on a new state of matter called the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). With his birth details listed on Astrodatabank with an A rating , we can look at his astrological chart to see what might have influenced his career in physics[Scientist] and how the planetary positions in 2001 might have played a part in his award.

Horoscope of Carl E. Wieman  Nobel Prize Winner

Picture of Carl E. Wieman  Nobel Prize Winner

In Carl E. Wieman’s chart, the 5th Lord Mars is well-placed in the 9th house with the 9th Lord Jupiter, along with the Sun and Mercury. Saturn, the 8th Lord, aspects Mars from the 3rd house. This connection between the 8th Lord Saturn (related to research) and the 3rd Lord Mercury (representing self-efforts) on the 3-9 axis suggests a strong focus on scientific research, known as Vigyan Yoga.

Additionally, the conjunction of the 5th Lord Mars with the Sun highlights an emphasis on the subject of physics. The mutual aspect and constellation exchange between the Sun and Saturn further support this connection. In the Navamsa chart, the Moon, as the 6th Lord, is placed in the 5th house, while the Sun is positioned in the 9th house, which is the 5th house from the 5th house under the sign exchange with 9th Lord Venus . In the Chaturvimshamsa chart[D-24], exalted Jupiter is in the 5th house, and the Sun is exalted in the 2nd house, which is the 10th house from the 5th house, thereby influencing the 5th house. Additionally, the 5th Lord Moon is in conjunction with Venus[8th Lord] in the 4th house. In the D-24 chart, Saturn in the 9th house is in a constellation exchange with the Sun, which means that, indirectly, the Sun is also considered to be in the 9th house.

In the Rashi chart, the Sun influences the 5th Lord Mars, the 9th house, and the 9th Lord. In the Navamsa chart, the Sun is positioned in the 9th house and is in sign exchange with the 9th Lord Venus. In the Chaturvimshamsa chart, the Sun is also considered to be in the 9th house due to a constellation exchange with Saturn. The Sun’s influence by the malefic Saturn supports the focus on the subject of physics.

The 9th Lord Jupiter, positioned with the 10th Lord Mars in the 9th house, creates a powerful Rajyoga, signifying significant success and honor. In October 2001, Carl E. Wieman was under the Dasha of Venus[11th Lord]-Venus[11th Lord]-Rahu. Venus, situated in the 10th house of honoras 11th Lord [fulfillment of desire] , benefits from this Rajyoga due to the Moon’s aspect from the 4th house. Rahu, in the 8th house, indicates research and unexpected developments, while its sign Lord, Saturn, is favorably aspected by Jupiter and the Yogakarka Mars.

Horoscope of Anthony James Leggett , Nobel Prize Winner

Picture of Anthony James Leggett Nobel Prize Winner

In 2003, Anthony James Leggett won the Nobel Prize in Physics. His birth details are available on Astrodatabank with an A rating. Let me explore his chart to understand why he pursued research in physics and why he won the Nobel Prize in October 2003.

Here again, the 5th Lord Saturn is closely conjunct with the Sun. Mercury (the 9th Lord) and Venus (the Lagna Lord and 8th Lord) are also conjunct with Saturn. In the Navamsa, the Sun is the 5th Lord, and Rahu is in the 5th house, aspected by Venus and Saturn. In the D-24 chart, Mars, the 5th Lord, has no connection with the Sun. So, the connection of the Sun with the 5th house or 5th Lord in both the D-1 and D-9 charts, combined with the 3rd Lord Jupiter aspectingthe 8th house, clearly indicates the formation of Vigyan Yoga. Additionally, the 8th Lord Venus is exalted in the 6th house.

He was under the Dasha of Saturn-Jupiter-Ketu at that time. The Antar Dasha Lord, Jupiter, was with the 10th Lord, Moon, forming Gajakeshari Yoga and aspecting the 10th house of honor. Both the 10th Lord Moon and the 10th house were activated. The Pratyantar Dasha Lord, Ketu, was in the 8th house of surprises and research. Additionally, the sign Lord Venus was not only exalted but also forming multiple Rajyogas with Mercury and Saturn. Venus is also conjunct with 11th Lord Sun[fulfillment of desire] in 6th House.

Additionally in the Dashmansha chart, Ketu is in the 11th house, which signifies the fulfillment of desires, while Jupiter, the Antar Dasha Lord, aspects Ketu from the 3rd house.

Gérard Mourou[Astrodatabank AA rating won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his pioneering work in generating high-intensity, ultra-short laser pulses. Let’s examine his astrological chart for further insights.

Picture of Gérard Mourou Nobel Prize Winner

Horoscope of Gérard Mourou Nobel Prize Winner

The 5th Lord, Jupiter, is positioned in the Lagna, while the Lagna Lord, the Sun (representing Physics), aspects the 5th house. The Sun is in an exact degree conjunction with Saturn in the 11th house, where Venus and the Moon are also present. In the Rashi Chart, the 3rd Lord, Venus, and the 8th Lord, Jupiter, have no direct connection; however, the 8th Lord Jupiter (related to Research) is well-placed in the Lagna, and the 3rd Lord Venus is situated in the 11th house.

In the Navamsa Chart, the 5th Lord, Saturn, is conjunct with the Sun (representing Physics) and is under the aspect of Jupiter (the 7th Lord) from the 8th house. Thus, the connection between the 8th Lord and the 5th Lord is evident in both the Rashi and Navamsa charts. In the Rashi Chart, the 8th Lord is also the 5th Lord (Jupiter), and in the Navamsa Chart, Jupiter aspects the 5th Lord, Saturn, along with the Sun from the 8th house.

In the Chaturvimshamsha Chart (D-24), the 5th Lord Jupiter is under the aspect of the Sun, and the 5th house is influenced by Mars and Saturn. This alignment further confirms the connection to the subject of Physics.

It is important to note that the 5th house or its Lord is the 3rd house from the 3rd house (which serves as the secondary house for the 3rd house).

Thus, the connection between the 3rd Lord and the 8th Lord, along with the influence of the Sun (representing Physics), indicates a strong yoga for a career as a research scientist. This alignment is evident in both the Rashi and Navamsa charts.

The exchange of signs between Mercury (the 11th Lord, representing the fulfillment of desires) and Venus (the 10th Lord, associated with honor) forms a strong combination for achieving significant recognition, such as a Nobel Prize.

The Dasha running at the time of the Nobel Prize announcement on October 2, 2018, was Sun-Ketu-Moon. The Sun, located in the 11th house with the 10th Lord Venus, along with the sign Lord of Antar Dasha Lord Ketu (Saturn) and the Pratyantar Dasha Lord Moon, supports this significant event. The exchange of signs between the 11th Lord Mercury (representing the fulfillment of desires) and the 10th Lord Venus (associated with honor) further justifies the occurrence of such a prestigious award.

In his chart, the Sun, as the Lagna Lord (Ascendant Lord) in Leo, aspects the 5th House. This placement signifies strong intellectual capabilities and a connection to higher learning and creativity. Additionally, Saturn, which rules both the 6th and 7th Houses, is positioned exactly conjunct the Sun. This alignment may suggest significant achievements through discipline and partnership.

In the Navamsa chart, Saturn, the 5th House Lord, is again conjunct the Sun, which is associated with physics. This conjunction is under the aspect of Jupiter from the 8th House, highlighting a deep and transformative influence related to his field of expertise.

Observation: The Sun's connection with the 5th house or its lord is evident across various divisional charts—D-1, D-9, and D-24. This includes aspects such as:

• Sun-Saturn Mutual Aspect, Conjunction, or Constellation Exchange: The Sun and Saturn either mutually aspect each other, are in conjunction, or are in constellation exchange, affecting the 5th house.

• 3rd Lord and 8th Lord Connection: The interaction between the 3rd Lord and the 8th Lord suggests a focus on research and knowledge.

• Liberal Application of Uccha Vagyanik Yoga: This alignment can be interpreted as a broad application of Uccha Vagyanik Yoga, indicating a strong inclination toward scientific research.

Additionally, all Nobel laureates have won the prize during the Dasha of planets placed in the 10th house or associated with the 10th Lord, which signifies honor and recognition. The 11th House (Fulfillment of Desire) and its Lord also played a significant role in winning the NobelPrize.      These planetary positions suggest that these times were especially favorable for achieving significant milestones and receiving recognition.
