India at the Asian Games 2026 — silver lining after a weak hockey World Cup
Method. This reading uses India’s national chart of 15 August 1947 (Independence); the Chaitra Shukla Pratipada (Hindu New Year) chart; the solar ingress of 17 September 2026; the New Moon of 11 September 2026 for New Delhi (effective until 26 September); and the Full Moon of 26 September 2026. Sports are judged from the 3rd house and its lord—courage, fitness, athleticism, competitiveness and determination—together with Mars as karaka of sport, and from the running dasha and transits. The forecast is based on the principles of Vedic (Indian) astrology.
The Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 run from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Nagoya, Japan. At Hangzhou, India won 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze. The question is how India will perform in this Asian Games.

The 3rd lord Venus is exalted in the lagna in Pisces with the 5th lord Moon, 6th lord Sun and 11th lord Saturn. Mars, though in the 12th, aspects the 3rd. Mars with Rahu and Mercury forms a rajyoga (9th lord + 7th lord) under the 10th lord Jupiter’s aspect, which galvanises Mars. Saturn, as the 11th lord and 12th lord, also aspects the 3rd house of sports. So both Mars and Saturn aspect the 3rd house.
In the navamsa, the 3rd lord Jupiter sits well in the 7th and aspects the 3rd, in sign exchange with Mars (7th and 2nd lord) placed in Pisces. Saturn and Mars again aspect each other in D-9. That mutual Mars–Saturn influence on the 3rd house of sports in the rasi chart produces a kshatriya personality of our sports persons and points to a very good performance in shooting and archery.
The Pisces point (water). The 3rd lord Venus is in Pisces, a water sign. In the navamsa, Jupiter, the 3rd lord, is very well placed in Aries in the 7th house, in sign exchange with Mars, the karaka of the 3rd house, who occupies Pisces. Pisces is therefore common to both the rasi and the navamsa—a water sign in each. These placements in the year chart show success in sports played in water: swimming, diving, water polo, rowing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking, and related events.The year chart is favourable for sport as a whole. That raises an obvious question: why, then, did the Indian hockey team finish 8th at the FIH Hockey World Cup in Wavre, Belgium and Amsterdam, Netherlands?
The cause was not the year chart. It was transit under the running dasha. The nation has been in Mars–Rahu–Mercury since 25 July 2026. Mars is the karaka of sport. During the World Cup the mahadasha lord Mars was transiting Gemini—a shatru rashi and the weakest sign in India’s horoscope—with only 19 Ashtakavarga points and 2 BAV points of Mars. A dasha that looks workable on the natal map cannot deliver while its lord is that weak in transit. That is why the result was poor despite a supportive yearly chart. Results also depend on the New Moon and Full Moon charts of the period and the solar ingress of that month. The Asiad reading stands on whether that Mars transit has changed by 19 September. It has: Mars leaves Gemini and enters Cancer on 18 September.

The 3rd lord Jupiter is exalted in the 10th in Cancer (water). Jupiter as 3rd lord and Mars as karaka of sport are well placed; Mars aspects the 3rd and gives stamina, courage and bold display. The 3rd also takes the aspects of the 5th lord Saturn and of Mars as 2nd and 7th lord. Saturn + Mars aspects on the 3rd house impart the Kshatriya personality to sports persons.In the navamsa, Jupiter is debilitated in the 4th in Capricorn (again water-linked) but stands in a kendra and is strengthened by exchange with Saturn, 5th lord of intelligence. Mars in the 8th still aspects the 3rd house and Saturn, reinforcing the kshatriya personality.
Caution (11–26 September): the 10th lord Moon in Mrityu Bhaga flags fitness and injury risk, especially for women athletes, while this lunation remains in force. Female athletes should be very careful about any controversy during the Games.
Overall, a favourable combination to be successful in winning medals at the coming Asiad, as the 3rd lord Jupiter is exalted in the 10th house in the rasi chart and well placed in D-9 due to sign exchange with the 5th lord Saturn.

The 3rd lord Moon is in the 11th of gains with yogakaraka Saturn (9th and 10th lord) in Pisces. The 11th lord Jupiter is exalted in the 3rd house in Cancer with debilitated Mars. Mars gets neechabhanga from exalted Jupiter and, with 32 Ashtakavarga points, aspects the 6th and its lord Venus (competition) and the 10th of honour. Moon–Jupiter exchange (3rd and 11th) is a direct medal yoga; Mars in the 3rd supplies courage and stamina.
Moon is the 3rd lord here and is very powerful in Paksha Bala. That strength of the Moon points to success for women sportspersons from 26 September onwards, once this Full Moon chart takes over from the New Moon.
In the navamsa, 11th lord Mercury in the 3rd is aspected by 5th lord Jupiter, which also aspects the 11th of medals. Mars from the navamsa lagna aspects 3rd lord Venus. Venus as 3rd and 10th lord is with 5th lord Jupiter under 9th lord Mars—an excellent medal combination for the second half of the Games.
Since the 3rd lord Moon is very powerful in Pisces, this hints towards success in sports played in water, as Pisces is a water sign.

Mars, 3rd lord, has digbala in the 10th and is vargottama. Debilitated Moon in the 3rd becomes a rajyogakaraka per BPHS under the aspect of Jupiter, the 4th lord and balancing force—hence a measured, optimum campaign.
In the navamsa, 3rd lord Mercury is well placed in the 11th with Ketu, under aspect of Jupiter, who also aspects the 3rd House . Eleventh lord Venus in the 6th is a fight-back yoga. Rahu in the 6th of competition in the rasi, and Saturn as 8th lord with Venus as 11th lord in the navamsa, support resilience under pressure. Mars in the 12th still aspects the 3rd and feeds stamina. In India’s Independence chart of 15 August 1947, the 3rd lord is in its own sign, which is helpful, but Paksha Bala is reduced by closeness to the Sun (also 4th lord)—a standing note of strain on national competitive edge. Moon with 5th lord Mercury and 9th lord Saturn mixes intellect, adaptability and discipline. Jupiter in kendra from the Moon gives Gajakesari Yoga in rasi and navamsa.
Running period: Mars–Rahu–Mercury (from 25 July 2026).In the natal map Mars, karaka of sport, is in Gemini—a shatru rashi and a weak house. Antardasha lord Rahu is in the lagna; Rahu’s sign lord Venus and pratyantardasha lord Mercury both occupy the 3rd House [ Sports]. In the navamsa, mahadasha lord Mars is strong in the 10th, Rahu is in the 12th (foreign soil), and Mercury as 7th lord in the 9th is a rajyoga aspecting the 3rd and navamsa lagna lord Jupiter. Jupiter as Lagna Lord –Mercury as 7th Lord is itself a rajyoga. The dasha structure is therefore not hostile to sport abroad. As set out above, the World Cup failure sat in the transit of Mars through Gemini (19 Ashtakavarga points, 2 BAV points), in the 2nd House from Lagna .
The turn for the Asiad: the mahadasha lord Mars enters Cancer on 18 September 2026, the day before the opening ceremony. Cancer is the 3rd house of sport and holds the 3rd lord Moon, with 27 Ashtakavarga points and 4 BAV points (28 would be ideal—close enough to call the transit strong). Antardasha lord Rahu transits the 10th in Aquarius, the house of honour under aspect of Mars Karka for sports from Cancer . That is the favourable transit of Mars, as compared with the Gemini transit that accompanied the dismal hockey result.
Conclusion
The year chart, both lunations, the ingress and the Independence-chart dasha agree on a strengthened 3rd house. Water sports are strongly marked on the yearly map by the Pisces point in both rasi and navamsa, and further reinforced on the Full Moon chart where the powerful 3rd lord Moon sits in Pisces. Shooting and archery receive consistent support from the mutual Mars–Saturn influence that produces a kshatriya personality among sports persons, visible in the year chart, New Moon and solar ingress.The New Moon of 11 September is overall favourable for winning medals at the Asiad, with the 3rd lord Jupiter exalted in the 10th and well placed in D-9 through exchange with Saturn. The solar ingress supports a balanced, mature campaign while again highlighting success in shooting and archery. The Full Moon from 26 September strengthens women sportspersons through the Moon’s high Paksha Bala and continues the water-sports promise. The hockey World Cup remains the dark cloud: same dasha, but Mars is weak in Gemini (19 Ashtakavarga, 2 BAV). The silver lining is the change of that transit on 18 September—Mars into Cancer with improved bindus, Rahu in the 10th of honour under the aspect of Mars. Treat women athletes with care while the New Moon (Moon in Mrityu Bhaga) lasts, including care over controversy. From 26 September onwards, the charts turn more supportive for female athletes. On the combined evidence, India is favoured for an excellent Aichi-Nagoya campaign, with clear potential in water sports, shooting and archery etc. While shooting, archery and water sports are particularly highlighted, the overall charts support good results across a wide range of events, and scope to beat Hangzhou’s 28 gold medals or to take a larger total medal haul than at the last Asian Games.
